Feline Boarding Policies
The feline boarding suites at The Cottages at Cat Clinic North are designed to replicate a home environment. They are not set up with sterile metal and hard surfaces that can be sprayed and sanitized. Our goal is to provide a safe, happy, healthy stay for all our feline guests. Please read each policy below and call us at 616-447-7807 if you have any questions.
Proof of Immunization
Any feline guests staying at The Cottages at Cat Clinic North will be required to have a current vaccine for FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia) and Rabies. If guests already test negative for the Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), the FeLV vaccine is optional (see our FeLV/FIV policy below). If vaccines are not current at admission (or expire during the scheduled stay), we will make an appointment at Cat Clinic North to update any needed vaccines at our earliest availability.
Proof of vaccination must be an official certificate or other paperwork from a veterinarian or shelter stating what vaccine was given, the date given, and the date the next vaccine is due. Owner administered vaccines are not valid nor is a vaccine booklet with handwritten dates. Records should be faxed or emailed to us prior to reservation date.
If your cat is unable to receive a vaccine due to health issues, please contact us. We do offer isolation boarding at our Kentwood location, Kentwood Cat Clinic, for current clients.
Parasite & Flea Policy
Our goal is to provide a safe, happy, and parasite-free stay for all our feline guests. All cats entering The Cottages at Cat Clinic North will be checked for signs of fleas. We require either proof of topical flea prevention (receipt for Revolution, Advantage Multi, Advantage or Frontline.), and date of last application or we will apply Advantage to all entering cats. Any evidence of either live fleas or flea dirt will constitute a flea infestation.
If visible infestation signs are present at entry there will be a cleaning fee of $75 assessed. This fee will cover the treatment of the room at discharge for the flea eggs being dropped into the carpeting during their stay as well as cleaning of the carpet for flea dirt.
Visible internal parasite evidence viewed on your cat or in their litterbox will result in a fecal sample being tested at Cat Clinic North at your cost. We will notify your veterinarian of the results so all room residents can be treated for the infection. Cat Clinic North or Kentwood Cat Clinic clients will be treated while at The Cottages so they may go home without any parasite infection.
Spay & Neuter Policy
All feline guests of The Cottages at Cat Clinic North will be required to be spayed or neutered to stay with us. Any kitten under 6 months of age that is not sprayed or in heat may stay with us as their age may preclude surgery. This is to ensure that no hormonal urine marking will occur while in residence. Any urine marking will require the carpets to be cleaned at the owner's cost of $75.
Any feline guests staying at The Cottages at Cat Clinic North will be required to be tested negative for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. If your cat goes outside at all, we will require a negative test within the last year. If your cat is strictly indoors, we will require a negative test within the past 5 years. This way each guest will have a disease-free room.
Sick Cat Policy
Any feline guests staying at The Cottages at Cat Clinic North that become ill during their stay will need immediate care. You or your representative will be contacted at the provided emergency contact number. Care can be provided right at Cat Clinic North, an emergency facility as specified, or transferred to your regular veterinarian (within 15 miles, a trip fee will apply). If we cannot reach you, we will begin diagnostics and treatment at the appropriate veterinary facility. Most illnesses will respond better and faster the sooner they are addressed. We want your cat to be as healthy as possible at your return.
Any cat found to be sneezing with discharge from the eyes or nose will be considered to be infectious (Feline Herpes/Calicivirus). Any infectious cat will be transferred (as space permits) to Cat Clinic North for isolation care or hospitalization (Kentwood Cat Clinic) or your veterinarian. Additional costs will apply. If the other cats boarding with the sick cat are not sneezing, they may remain at the cottages for their scheduled time. A charge of $75 will be applied to your bill as the room will need to be sanitized.
If your cat is a chronic sneezer due to anatomy or allergies we will need a document from your veterinarian stating this. All others will be assumed to be infectious.
We require payment for one half of expected services at time of drop off, and the balance at time of pick up. If you pay the entire anticipated bill up front you will receive a 5% discount. We accept cash, checks and debit and credit cards (MasterCard, Visa or Discover).
